Tots In London role play cafe
“Let’s play cafes” just got a whole lot more exciting. Now they can play while you enjoy a hot cup of coffee at a real cafe. This place is brilliant for under 5s, with role playing stations complete with props and costumes. Your little attention thief might become a shopkeeper, or a librarian, or even a pizza chef. The attention to detail around each of the play stations is amazing, and the cafe is clean, bright and cosy enough to while away a few hours when you’re both going a bit stir-crazy at home.
Greenwich Theatre
It’s time to introduce your little ones to the magic of the theatre! Soar through the skies with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell or join a swashbuckling adventure with the Three Musketeers. This nationally regarded theatre puts on some fantastic productions for children, and their award-winning pantomime is legendary.

Deptford Market Yard
Markets on Wednesday, Friday & Saturday
Featured in Timeout’s “33 Coolest Streets in the World” in 2022, this place is full of bright colours and mouthwatering scents – perfect for a wander with a pushchair. Look up at the arches and you’ll see flags hand-drawn by local children, each depicting what Deptford Market Yard means to them. What community spirit!
Saturday Markets (every other Saturday, 10am-4pm) Bringing together local craftsmanship and culture.
Sunday Markets (every other Sunday, 10am-4pm) Pick up clothing, furniture, glassware and all sorts of other treasures at this free community market for local traders.
Horniman Museum
This is a real crowd-pleaser of a museum. Children will love getting up close with jellyfish and clown fish in the Aquarium, or being at one with butterflies in the tropical indoor garden. Then they can dive into a more man-made experience at the Robot Zoo, where giant robotic creatures will have them mesmerised.
If the weather’s good, bring a picnic for the gardens. You don’t even need to worry about an unexpected shower – there’s plenty of shelter in the Dutch Barn.

Surrey Docks Farm
Meet goats, ferrets, ponies, sheep and a whole range of small animals at this working charitable farm. We’re especially fond of Kiera, the farm’s gorgeous Miniature Shetland Pony. Book a ‘Meet The Pony’ experience (for 2) and you’ll get to groom her and take her for a walk around the farm! A lovely, hands-on activity that will tire them out nicely for the evening.
The Albany
Don’t let the “multipurpose arts centre” description put you off – this theatre in Deptford runs amazing workshops for children, from Summer Wild Play to performance workshops, and has a hidden urban garden that’s a wildlife oasis for bees, butterflies, and frogs. It’s just the kind of creative space that sparks little people’s imaginations.

Deptford Lounge
5-minute walk from The Working Mums Club
Nope, Deptford Lounge isn’t a swanky club for thirty-somethings. It’s actually a community hub with a well stocked children’s library and creative workshops for all ages. Pop into Lego Club on Friday (10am-12pm) and prepare to ooh and ahh at your child’s creations. Then choose from colouring, crafting, or even family films on Saturday. This is low cost, high value fun for everyone.
Margaret McMillan Park
If you need to get active in the fresh air, this award-winning park (Civic Trust Award for Community Recognition, no less) has some great play equipment for under-13s, and a cycle path around the park. It’s a perfect place to burn off some energy when everyone’s getting a bit antsy.
